Description

Belford Lawson of the House Select Committee on Assassinations staff wrote this memorandum on January 12, 1977. It went to Robert K. Tanenbaum, the committee's deputy chief counsel. Lawson records an untaped telephone interview of January 10, 1977, with Nathan Pool. The talk covered the 'magic bullet' and Parkland Memorial Hospital, among other subjects.

Because the call was untaped, this memo is the only record of it. Committee lawyers worked the phones constantly, testing witnesses before deciding whom to call formally. Pool's views on the single-bullet question and the hospital were worth two pages of a staffer's time. The memo shows the inquiry's middle layer: not hearings, but the calls that decided what the hearings would ask.
