Description
Rival prints of the Wapping witch case drew a sharp reply in 1652. A Declaration in Answer to Pamphlets concerning the Witch of Wapping takes the other accounts apart point by point. Such print fights were common, but few over witch cases survive so fully.
The writer charges the first pamphlets with false reports and works to set the record straight. Readers watch two camps argue over what was said, done, and proved. The quarrel shows the witch panic fought out in the press as much as in court. It is a rare, clear look at how trial news was made and unmade.
