Description
Thomas Heath edited and translated the Works of Archimedes, the greatest mathematician of the ancient world, in the volume verified from the 1919 scan. On the Sphere and Cylinder, the Measurement of the Circle, and the Sand-Reckoner stand among its treatises. Archimedes of Syracuse proved results that calculus would not match for nearly two thousand years.
He bounds pi, weighs the crown, and counts the grains of sand that would fill the universe, all with strict proof. Heath's edition adds a famous account of a lost method of discovery. Eureka's author stands here in full: playful, rigorous, and centuries ahead of his readers.
