Description

Volume two of Budge's Gods of the Egyptians completes the 1904 survey with studies in Egyptian mythology proper. Myths of creation, the wars of Horus and Set, and the books of the underworld receive long treatment. Budge follows the first volume's pantheon into story, ritual, and tomb text.

The Duat, Egypt's land of the dead, gets its full geography of gates, judges, and fields. Rituals by which priests served the gods daily stand beside the tales told about them. Verified from the 1919 edition, the second half rounds out Budge's most ambitious popular work. Egypt's religion stands here as one vast, strange system.
