Description
A London pamphlet of 1619 tells the case of Margaret and Phillippa Flower, servants at Belvoir Castle accused of killing the Earl of Rutland's young sons by witchcraft. Their mother Joan was also accused. The Wonderful Discoverie prints the charges, examinations, and confessions as Jacobean readers craved them.
Joan Flower died on the road to prison; her daughters were hanged at Lincoln. The pamphlet mixes court record with wonder and horror in equal measure. True-crime writing of the witch craze seldom gets closer to a real case. The evidence notes no public-domain text has yet been located for this entry.
