Description
Anatoly Chernyaev, the Soviet aide whose diaries became one of the great insider sources on the Cold War's end, was born in 1921. The National Security Archive marked his centennial, the hundredth anniversary of his birth, with a briefing book page honoring the man and the record he left behind. Chernyaev served Mikhail Gorbachev and wrote down what he saw. Only the page capture survives in this entry's evidence, but its subject is the diarist, celebrated by the institution that has spent years publishing his work in English.
