Description
Oscar Wilde's sole novel first ran in Lippincott's Magazine in July 1890, in this form of thirteen parts. The text here stands as the magazine printed it, from page scans of that print. Wilde made it longer and more soft for the book form of 1891.
Dorian Gray keeps his youth while a portrait of him grows old and foul in his place. The magazine form is more raw and more bold than the book that most readers know. It holds lines and scenes Wilde cut or toned down when the first storm broke on the tale.
