Description

Three United States Air Force pilots were imprisoned together, and another died, a September 1967 report covers. The heading joins the two facts in one breath, as the event likely joined them. Aircrews captured together often stayed together through the prison system.

Companions in captivity could confirm each other's survival across years of silence. When one of a group died, the others' accounts became his record. Officials therefore valued group reports for the cross-checks they allowed later. This file opens three prisoner cases and closes a fourth, all from a single reported incident in the autumn of 1967.
