Description
A deleted source's account of hearing that American pilots were still being held is preserved in a January 1966 item. The name is blacked out, as sources' names usually were on release. Hearsay sits low in the evidence order, and the heading keeps it plainly labeled.
Secondhand claims still entered the files because a man's fate might ride on them. Analysts marked the chain of telling: who heard, from whom, and where. Later reports could raise or sink such an account. This file shows the bottom layer of the prisoner record, rumor kept because silence risked more.
