Description
Quang Binh province is the setting for a November 1972 report on two dead pilots sighted there. Quang Binh, just north of the old demilitarized zone, endured some of the war's heaviest bombing. Reports of dead airmen arrived as the bombing campaign neared its end.
Such reports served the accounting effort rather than rescue, fixing where losses had occurred. A place name could let officials match remains or graves to missing crews later. The work was grim, and its results often stayed incomplete. Still, each filed sighting narrowed the unknown for two men's families and records alike.
